Road, gate and tunnel closures

The following roads will be closed to all traffic (pedestrian included) between 11.00 a.m. and 7.00 p.m.:

1. The main road (RD 984) between the Saint Genis roundabout and the customs.
2. The Route de Meyrin between the Route du Mandement and the St Genis customs.
3. Gates A, B and D and the tunnel linking the Meyrin and Prévessin sites.

In addition, the Route de l’Europe running between the crossroads by the Prévessin site (RD 35b) and the RD 984 will be closed as of 8 a.m..

Please use the following gates during the above-mentioned hours:

The venue for the ceremony will be accessible only by shuttle bus (departing from Point 1 via the Globe).


Car parking

Use of the car parks reserved for the ceremony guests is strictly forbidden between 3.00 p.m. on 20 October and 6.00 p.m. on 21 October. Any vehicles parked on the car parks in question will be removed at the owners’ expense.

You are reminded that access to the LHC Inauguration Ceremony and the LHCfest is by invitation only.

Only people with an invitation can board the shuttles to Point 18.

Maps of parkings & shuttle service:

Shuttle lines 1 and 2 will be already available in the late morning for guests of the Inauguration Ceremony. Lines 3 and 4 will only run as of 6:30 pm.

Colour code for reserved parkings:

Yellow + Orange: VVIP and External Agencies



Deep blue: CERN Invited Guests (VIP)


Light Blue: CERN Invited Guests


Green: Press

White & Blue stripes: Staff on duty

Public transport

Timetables and maps of Geneva public transport are available on the TPG web site.

Bus line 56 will stop at the Hôpital de la Tour between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Bus Y will be escorted by the Police along la Route de Meyrin in front of CERN, but will not stop at CERN an Maisonnex between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.
