Saturday 5 April - Special Open Day for all members of the CERN personnel (staff, associates and pensioners) and their families
For the first and last time before the start-up of the LHC, CERN is inviting all members of the Laboratory’s personnel and their families to go underground to visit the LHC. For those of you who have not already visited the LHC, this will be the last opportunity for you and your families to see the world’s most powerful particle accelerator (27 km in circumference) before it goes into service during 2008.
The LHC will accelerate minute particles and collide them at the centre of four large detectors, ALICE, ATLAS, CMS and LHCb. This unique world-leading scientific tool will be visible at most of the access points in the Pays de Gex and Meyrin.
An attractive programme of activities and underground visits awaits you on all the points around the ring , go visit the one closest to where you live.
Most of the visits that are planned for the public Open Day on Sunday, 6 April, will also be on the programme for Saturday 5 April.
NOTE: the maximum number of visitors to the underground areas cannot exceed 7 000 people in total for all the points and all day.
