Point 5: Cessy
Discover the LHC tunnel and the heaviest of the LHC experiments, CMS, weighing more than the Eiffel Tower. The magnificent CMS experiment will seek to understand fundamental phenomena that still remain a mystery, such as the origin of mass or the explanation for the dark matter in the Universe.
Programme
LHC tunnel and CMSThere will be two guided tours, to the LHC tunnel (including Totem) and to the CMS detector, both starting continuously from building 3585 (SX5). Please get your free, numbered ticked from the Info Point in the same building.
Please note the safety rules for access to the underground tunnel and caverns.
On the surface, there will be a small exhibition about the LHC as well as more information about Totem. You will also be able to find out more about the civil engineering of the LHC and the CERN surveyors will present a demontration of their accuracy.
Make sure you don't miss the superfluidity demo – a weird property of the ultracold Helium, that is being used to cool the LHC magnets to close to zero tempertature.
Point 5 will also host a CERN shop as well as Shop of the French Post office where you can buy CERN branded philatelic souvenirs of the day.
Please find below a schedule for talks about CERN in general and the CMS experiment in particular, which will take place in building SX5 on the CERN P5 site (in french, unless otherwise specified).
At 11:10, Fred from “C'est pas sorcier” will make a stop in Cessy, on the CERN site.

Park&Ride
Shuttles ( Régie de l'Ain) to P5 are available from the Parking lots at the Segny Carrefour shopping centre, with a stop at the Segny village.
